I found these lines difficult to write. Not just the general ugliness, but the terminology. How to, in one breath, talk about the sex trade and yet show respect for the people in it?
To me, whore seems to imply a person of low character who chooses wrong. So I use prostitute because I feel it implies people can be forced into the trade against their will. Yet I cheat and hang onto “whore houses” instead of “houses of prostitution” in Prophets of cheer because short words make for an easy read.
If you do an online search for Asherah, your pastor or seminary prof might help you sort through the chaff.
